Our Methodology
Data Collection & Verification
The Velodrome sources its cycling data from publicly available historical cycling datasets maintained by academic researchers and cycling statisticians. Our primary sources include peer-reviewed datasets covering Grand Tour results from 1903 onwards and UCI race records from official competition databases.
Data Processing
Raw data undergoes a multi-step normalization process: rider name standardization across different naming conventions, team name harmonization across seasons, and cross-referencing between multiple independent datasets to verify accuracy.
Update Frequency
Historical data is verified against source datasets on a weekly basis. When source datasets are updated with new race results, our system automatically detects changes and updates the database within 24 hours.
Accuracy Standards
We cross-reference race results across multiple independent data sources before publishing. Any discrepancies are flagged for manual review by our editorial team. If you identify an inaccuracy, please contact us through our corrections process.
Limitations
Historical data from the early 20th century may have gaps or inconsistencies due to incomplete original records. Where data is unavailable, we clearly indicate this rather than presenting estimated values. Rider nationality and biographical data is sourced separately and may not be available for all historical riders.
